I teach piano lessons for beginning-late intermediate students ages 7 and up.
Education
I have a bachelor's degree in music from Brigham Young University.
My skills in piano, voice, violin and ballet all make me uniquely qualified to teach my students how to play the piano expressively and to help them develop into fine musicians.
I started both piano and violin lessons as a young child and added voice lessons and ballet as a teenager. I played in our high school orchestra and was awarded the National School Orchestra Award for excellence in music and for my contribution to the ensemble. While majoring in music, I studied both piano and voice. After I graduated, I continued developing my piano skills with an accomplished concert pianist. With a BA in music I have a thorough understanding of music theory, composition, keyboard skills, ear-training, rhythm and music history including the performance practices of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern Eras. I find this knowledge to be extremely helpful as I help my piano students to understand, enjoy and master the music they are learning.
Emphasis
I think it is important for piano students to develop a love of music. I approach every song and every concept in a way that brings the joy of music alive for the student. We will move at whatever pace the student needs in order to fully master the concepts of note-reading, rhythm, articulation, and expression without becoming overwhelmed or bored.
