The First Book of Broadway Solos

Hal Leonard

This is a nice series for singers who already know what voice type they are. It comes in four volumes:
Soprano
Mezzo Soprano
Tenor
Baritone/Bass

The songs in these volumes are well suited for beginning singers and are all in a style that promotes lyrical singing. There are about 22-24 songs in each book which is a lot considering that most broadway collections have many songs that do not fit the singer's voice type. Some songs have been transposed, especially in the soprano and tenor albums, to make them more useful for the singer. The books are also available in a Book/CD combo which is nice. Most of the songs are from the classic musical theatre era (1945-1960) so that is a drawback for singers looking for newer material, but it is nice from the standpoint that they are well known.
